When Ciel's cousin and fiancee, Elizabeth Middleford visits the Phantomhive Estate, she asks Ciel to dance with her, much to his annoyance. Sebastian then convinced his young master to learn a simple Waltz in order to preserve his social reputation. Things do not go well as Ciel chose to wear the Phantomhive Family Ring in favor of the one Elizabeth bought for him, which made her upset. She broke his ring and was almost hit by Ciel until Sebastian stopped him and explained to Elizabeth the cause of Ciel’s anger. Ciel threw out the broken ring, stating that he is the head of the Phantomhive Household with or without it. Sebastian played the violin as the two danced and made amends.Although Ciel was able to successfully hide his depression, Sebastian saw right through his young master and reprimanded him that evening. He then produced the Phantomhive Family ring, undamaged, stating that it would only be natural for the servant of the Phantomhive to achieve this.
